Bible Series Part 19
The main four methods of interpretation between the years of 100 - 500 AD are discussed in this podcast.
- Functional-Typological: Finding a foreshadowing of present and future events in historical events and people of the past.
- Authorative: The Church employing a hermeneutic that sought to appeal to Church tradition as the interpretative norm for Christianity. (regula fide)
- Allegory: Finding the hidden meaning in characters, places, events, numbers, and other details that would not otherwise be found.
- Historical-Grammatical Literary: Using the understanding of the original meaning to the original audience then comparing scripture to scripture to extract the timeless principle. Also, recongnizing the genre of literature.
